Reservoir was built in the late 1940's by the Indianapolis Water Company,
as a source of water for the city. Geist
Reservoir has long been appreciated by the residents as a recreational
area for boating and fishing. Homeowners enjoy four-star schools,
short commutes to downtown Indianapolis and Keystone Crossing, and
Indiana's most affluent lakefront lifestyle.
Geist reservoir is located in the northeast corner of Indianapolis. "The Geist area" simply refers to the area around it, including northeast Lawrence Township in Indianapolis, and Fall Creek Township of Hamilton County in the eastern part of the Fishers area. 96th Street, which separates Indianapolis from Hamilton County to the north, runs through the middle of the reservoir. Many of the residential parts of the Geist area are in Lawrence Township, while many are actually in the Fall Creek Township portion of Fishers. |
